Program Sub— Adult Services

United Disability Services has a full-time Program Sub position opening in our Adult Services Department serving adults with developmental disabilities. This position will be trained to work in all areas and all locations within Adult Services, including Akron, Kent and Twinsburg, and will fill vacancies due to absences. These positions are an instructor/trainer role and will be directly involved in instruction, training and supervision and personal care of consumers.

Experience preferred in lifting, feeding and working with adults with developmental disabilities, but not required. Training will be provided. Requirements include proof of HS/GED; BCI; references and physical w/drug screen. College in related field helpful. 

These positions will include an additional $1.00 per hour premium at start as well as incumbents in this position will have the opportunity to earn additional one-time base salary increases of $.25 per hour at intervals of 6 months and 1 year.  Exceptional benefits are available to include health, paid vacation, sick leave, and retirement plan.

Science Teacher— The Steel Academy

The UDS Steel Academy is a free public, nonprofit 501(c)(3), community school focusing on students with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, gifted students or any student with learning differences by maximizing their educational experience through the integration of academics with the visual and performing arts. The school offers fully accredited academic program serving students in grades 6-12.  

The UDS Steel Academy has a full-time position available for a Teacher teaching students in Science in a charter school at the middle and high school level. This position supports, observes and records the progress of students assigned to a classroom; plans lessons in line with national objectives with the aim of ensuring a healthy culture of learning; keeps up to date with developments in designated subject area, new resources, methods and national objectives; and liaisons with other professionals, parents and guardians.

 Habilitation Aide— Kent

United Disability Services has a Habilitation Aide position available at our Kent facility. This is a direct care position that serves adults with developmental disabilities, and is responsible for assisting consumers with all personal needs. Hours worked are Mon-Fri, no evenings.

This position requires a creative/energetic individual who will provide supervision and instruction of social/recreational activities to adults with developmental disabilities.

Consumer Outreach Specialist (Part-time)

Are you looking make a difference? Do you like to help others? Then we may have just the opportunity for you!  

United Disability Services, an accredited social service Agency, has openings for Consumer Outreach Specialist positions in our Residential program to work flexible part-time hours approximately 20 hours per week taking adults with disabilities into the community.  In this position you will be accompanying adults with disabilities in the community taking them to concerts, helping them budget, attending sporting events, grocery shopping and many more activities. 

Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required. Must be willing to use own transportation; with mileage reimbursement.  Required:  HS/GED; 5 yrs driving experience w/ good driving record, required level of car insurance, background check, and physical w/drug screen.

Employment Trainer— Wayne County (Part-time)

United Disability Services currently has a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) training and supervising adults with disabilities outside of sheltered workshops. Clients served by this position are independent and capable of self-care. Employment Trainers works on short term assignments (1 to 4 weeks) one-on-one with different clients in the community, teaching various job skills.

The ideal candidate will be dependable and flexible, with the ability to think critically and use independent judgment in decision-making situations. Detailed report writing and effective interpersonal communication to teach and role model positive work skills and behaviors to participants. HS diploma or equivalent required. College degree and/or at least two years’ experience working with people with disabilities in a vocational setting preferred. Must be available to work a daytime shift Monday through Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) about 20 hours per week. Must pass a background check and physical w/drug screen. Must have 5 years driving experience with a proven safe driving record. First Aid/CPR certification required. Hourly pay commensurate with experience.

Workstation Specialist (Part-time/Avg. 25 hours/week)

United Disability Services has an opening in the Vocational Services Program for a part-time Workstation Specialist.  This position will assist in job production training, vocational skill development and one-on-one community supervision of adults with developmental disabilities.

Required: HS/GED proof required, references, MVR, BCI & physical w/drug screen. A federal background check is required by the airport.  Prefer prior experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.

Workshop Specialist I— Twinsburg

United Disability Services has a full-time position with no evening/weekend hours open in our Twinsburg facility. This position is an instructor/trainer role of the DD population and directly involved in personal care, instruction, training, and supervision of consumers.  This position requires the ability to implement written training and behavior modification programs as instructed.

Bus/Van Driver— On-Call

United Disability Services has an immediate opening for a part-time on-call driver to transport persons with disabilities and provide passenger assistance. Candidates must possess the ability to provide passenger assistance and demonstrate understanding and compassion for the general and specific needs of the passengers they transport.

Required: Five years driving experience w/good record (no more than 2 points), must possess current/valid Ohio driver’s license, HS/GED; background check, and physical w/drug screen. Individuals who hold Class “C” CDL w/passenger endorsement preferred.
