Assessment Specialist— Akron,OH

United Disability Services has a full-time position available for an Assessment Specialist in our Community Employment Department, a CARF-accredited program. The Assessment Specialist’s primary function is to coordinate and conduct assessments and on-the-job supports for people with disabilities at community-based employment locations to help them become job ready for community employment and to maintain employment once they are working.

This position requires good written and oral communication skills; ability to work with individuals who have a variety of disabilities, as well as professionals in the business nonprofit and rehabilitation community. Must acquire/maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in related field or five years of experience in a related field. Prior experience in vocational evaluation, job development/coaching or vocational rehabilitation preferred. Must have current driver’s license, five years driving experience, safe driving record, a personal vehicle, and meet Agency insurance requirements. Requires travel with mileage reimbursement and use of own vehicle to include occasional use for consumer transportation. Must satisfactorily pass a background check and physical w/drug screen.

This is a direct care position that serves adults with developmental disabilities, and is responsible for assisting consumers with all personal needs. Hours worked are Monday-Friday, no evenings.

Program Sub—Adult Services, Greater Akron,OH area

United Disability Services has a full-time Program Sub position opening in our Adult Services Department serving adults with developmental disabilities. This position will be trained to work in all areas and all locations within Adult Services, including Akron, Kent and Twinsburg, and will fill vacancies due to absences. These positions are an instructor/trainer role and will be directly involved in instruction, training and supervision and personal care of consumers.

Experience preferred in lifting, feeding and working with adults with developmental disabilities, but not required. Training will be provided. Requirements include proof of HS/GED; BCI; references and physical w/drug screen. College in related field helpful. 

These positions will include an additional $1.00 per hour premium at start as well as the opportunity to earn additional one-time base salary increases of $.25 per hour at intervals of 6 months and 1 year. The ideal candidate will be dependable and flexible, with the ability to think critically and use independent judgment in decision-making situations. Detailed report writing and effective interpersonal communication to teach and role model positive work skills and behaviors to participants.

HS diploma or equivalent required. College degree and/or at least two years’ experience working with people with disabilities in a vocational setting preferred. Must be available to work a daytime shift Monday through Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) about 20 hours per week. Must pass a background check and physical w/drug screen. Must have 5 years driving experience with a proven safe driving record. Hourly pay commensurate with experience.

Bus/Van Driver—On-Call, Greater Akron,OH area

United Disability Services has an immediate opening for a part-time on-call driver to transport persons with and without disabilities and provide passenger assistance. Candidates must possess the ability to provide passenger assistance and demonstrate understanding and compassion for the general and specific needs of the passengers they transport.

Required: Five years driving experience with good record (no more than 2 points), must possess current/valid Ohio driver’s license, HS/GED; background check, and physical with drug screen. Individuals who hold Class “C” CDL w/passenger endorsement preferred.
