Customer Support Specialist (Transportation) — Akron, OH

Do you have excellent customer service skills? Are you able to relate positively with customers and multi-task? United Disability Services, a not-for-profit social service agency, has a full-time position as a Customer Support Specialist at our Akron facility. This position provides general clerical support and drives agency vehicles as needed to support the Transportation Program and must possess the following:

  • Pleasant and audible telephone voice with the ability to relate positively to others.
  • General office skills
    • Data entry
    • Microsoft Office and transportation routing software
    • Maintenance of confidential records
  • Valid driver’s license
    • Ability to drive company vehicle and provide appropriate passenger assistance

Candidate must pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), physical and drug screen. This position requires a creative/energetic individual who will provide supervision and instruction of social/recreational activities to adults with developmental disabilities.

United Disability Services currently has a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) training and supervising adults with disabilities outside of sheltered workshops. Clients served by this position are independent and capable of self-care. Employment Trainers works on short term assignments (1 to 4 weeks) one-on-one with different clients in the community, teaching various job skills. 

The ideal candidate will be dependable and flexible, with the ability to think critically and use independent judgment in decision-making situations. Detailed report writing and effective interpersonal communication to teach and role model positive work skills and behaviors to participants.

HS diploma or equivalent required. College degree and/or at least two years’ experience working with people with disabilities in a vocational setting preferred. Must be available to work a daytime shift Monday through Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) about 20 hours per week. Must pass a background check and physical w/drug screen. Must have 5 years driving experience with a proven safe driving record. First Aid/CPR certification required. Hourly pay commensurate with experience.

Bus/Van Driver (Part-Time) — Akron, OH

United Disability Services has an immediate opening for a part-time on-call driver to transport persons with and without disabilities and provide passenger assistance. Candidates must possess the ability to provide passenger assistance and demonstrate understanding and compassion for the general and specific needs of the passengers they transport.

Required: Five years driving experience with good record (no more than 2 points), must possess current/valid Ohio driver’s license, HS/GED; background check, and physical with drug screen. Individuals who hold Class “C” CDL w/passenger endorsement preferred.
