Basket Ball Gala
Any style of tennis shoes is fair game at United Disability Services’ Basket Ball annual fundraising gala being held on March 31, 2012 at The University of Akron Student Union Ballroom. It’s the only event in town where event patrons are asked to show off their creative sneaker style, while cheering for their favorite college basketball team during the NCAA playoffs. (Choose your attire – tuxedos and gowns or even dressy clothes are always in style, but tennis shoes are a must!)
It’s a great way to support a great cause without missing a minute of March Madness action. College hoops fans can stay on top of all the NCAA scores and highlights throughout the evening by watching a live broadcast of the playoff games.
Tipoff begins at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar and silent auction, followed by a delectable gourmet dinner and lively oral auction featuring many great items, services and vacation packages.
Since the first Basket Ball in 2005, nearly $450,000 has been raised to support the programs and services provided by United Disability Services for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. Some of these funds have been designated to provide respite care for the elderly, transportation services, low vision assessments and optical aids for people who would otherwise be unable to afford them, as well as furnishings for several group homes operated by the agency.
