Quality food services with a mission
A partnership with Summit County Children Services has enabled UDS to add this exciting box lunch piece to its already existing food services program. Taste Buds uses the large industrial kitchen facility provided at Children Services as a central food preparation site for box lunches as well as the hot entrées and other items made fresh daily for cafeteria customers at Children Services.
Individuals who work at Taste Buds have the opportunity to learn a broad range of skills needed to work in the food service or catering industry either in the community or in a supported work environment.
Clients are responsible for cashiering, salad and sandwich preparation, dish washing with institutional equipment, dining room and kitchen clean-up, stock room organization, stocking the display cooler and making coffee.
Taste Buds employs a program manager with considerable experience in the food service industry. Other staff members teach how to prepare and serve food, interact with customers and help those who have joined the program make the adjustment to a new work setting. Currently eight individuals with disabilities are employed in the program.
