The Toy & Resource Center
The Toy & Resource Center loans developmental toys and resource materials to anyone working with a child between birth and six years of age with special needs or developing typically.  Membership is open to individuals and organizations including parents, grandparents, teachers, therapists, students, hospitals, child care centers and preschool programs.  The Center also has a Special Needs Division that offers specialized adaptive switches, toys and computer training devices.

Vocational Services
Vocational Services focuses on development of appropriate work skills and specific job training for adults age 18 and older through a facility-based work experience. Participants perform jobs in areas such as sub-assembly, collating, packaging, labeling and mailing services for local companies. Workstations are adapted or modified as needed to improve productivity and quality. Vocational Services also coordinates the Personal Care Attendant Program. Community Employment Services
Community Employment Services provides people, who have a wide variety of abilities at all skill levels, with the support and guidance needed to assist them in finding employment. Community Employment Services also helps employers by providing them with motivated and reliable employees. For more information call (330) 762-9755.

BraVo!
BraVo! helps participants explore community resources, develop community integration and social skills, and enhance personal abilities with a sense of accomplishment gained through a variety of volunteer experiences.  For more information or to schedule BraVo! volunteers, call (330) 762-9755.

SociAbilities
The SociAbilities program provides a variety of social, recreational and therapeutic activities for people age 18 and older. Participants are encouraged to take an active role in the planning process and are able to create a weekly schedule of activities where personal preference are emphasized. In addition, SociAbilities provides daily personal care, physical therapy, speech and language therapy and social services. Evening and weekend recreational events for persons with disabilities are also offered throughout the year by the agency's "After Hours" program.  For more information call (330) 379-3337.

Low Vision Services
United Disability Services provides low vision services to individuals who are experiencing visual difficulty that cannot be corrected by medical treatment, surgery or conventional glasses.  The program works with children and adults by providing low vision assessments and the opportunity to try vision aids and adaptive equipment such as special reading or telescopic glasses, handheld magnifiers, large print or "talking" devices, special lighting and/or closed circuit television systems.  Orientation and mobility services are also available to help individuals with visual impairments learn to navigate their world more easily.  A Low Vision Support Group is also available.  For more information call (330) 996-4080.

The Northern Ohio Bioptic Driving Program
The Northern Ohio Bioptic Driving Program is a collaborative effort of UDS Low Vision Services and Edwin Shaw Hospital to help qualified Ohioans with visual impairments obtain driving privileges with the aid of bioptic telescopic glasses.  This comprehensive evaluation and training process carefully screens potential drivers for the ability to develop the complex skills needed for driving a car.  For more information call (330) 996-4080.

Respite and Community Living Services:

Time For Me
Time for Me coordinates a training and referral program matching families needing in- or out-of-home respite care.  The program will also be providing respite for families caring for a child with a chronic or terminal illness through the Pediatric Palliative Care Center at Akron Children's Hospital beginning in the spring of 2008.  For more information call (330) 762-9755.

Residential Services
Residential Services provides services in a variety of settings including group living arrangements, foster care and semi-independent living, depending on the needs and preferences of the individuals served. For more information call (330) 762-9755.

Transportation Services
Transportation Services provides transportation for individuals attending the adult services programs, and organization and other community groups under contract.  Out-of-county medical transportation is available for those who qualify through the Department of Job and Family Services.  Non-emergency wheelchair transportation for individuals covered by Medicaid for medical appointments, outpatient medical testing and dialysis is also available.  For more information call (330) 762-9751.

Community Relations
Community Relations educates and informs the community about agency services through tours, presentations, a community newsletter, brochures and participation in community events.  The department also coordinates agency fundraising activities including the annual Basket Ball gala, and publishes Kaleidoscope Magazine which explores the experience of disability through literature and the fine arts.  For more information call (330) 762-9755.
