BraVo!

Volunteer service is a great way to feel good about oneself while meeting new people, exploring new interests and employment options, and supporting the community. BraVo! – Building Relationships and Volunteer Opportunities – is a non-traditional program for individuals interested in an alternative to more traditional employment options but who still wish to participate in the community in a meaningful and valuable way.
BraVo! is a full-time program offered five days a week for an average of six hours a day. Volunteer activities take place in the community in small groups and at the BraVo! program site. Team members are actively involved in the planning of all volunteer opportunities, as well as other fun social, recreational and fitness activities provided throughout a typical week. Lunch and personal care occur with limited staff assistance, and travel is provided by agency van or public transportation, as appropriate.
Community Involvement
BraVo! helps educate the general public by creating a greater awareness of the skills and abilities of people with disabilities and how everyone is able to contribute in the community in a meaningful way.Special Awards and Recognition
The BraVo! program and its very active corps of volunteers has received recognition from the following for exceptional volunteer efforts in the community:
- President’s Volunteer Service Award from the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation
- Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Betty Sutton’s office
- Honored for volunteering with the Community Aids Network during the 7th Annual Volunteer Celebration sponsored by the United Way of Summit County Volunteer Center
The BraVo! team is available Monday through Friday during daytime hours to help local nonprofit and civic organizations supplement their volunteer needs. Projects may include a variety of indoor or outdoor activities, such as gardening, collating, mailing and assembling. They can be performed off-site or at the BraVo! headquarters in downtown Akron.

“The BraVo! participants are an amazing group of individuals. Their level of enthusiasm is remarkable. Normally, it is an agency’s responsibility to motivate and encourage its volunteers. When the BraVo! group is on the scene, my fellow staff members are the ones who receive the encouragement! I look forward to their visit each week.”
–Daryl Mangeri, Operations Manager, Salvation Army
“BraVo! helps other people in the community. It brings me joy to hear people say thanks for the good things we do. I want to be a part of BraVo! to learn about other people’s needs and to show how much we love them.”
–Yvonne, BraVo! Team Member
“Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.”
