Adults, kids, people with and without disabilities, amazing bowlers and those who just like having fun, gathered at Spins Bowl in Akron on Saturday, July 20, to support inclusive sports. Bowling is the most popular All-Star Training Club sport so having a bowling fundraiser to support the program seemed like a no-brainer. The inaugural All-Stars at the Alley event had a retro '70s theme in recognition of our agency's 70th anniversary. Volunteers sported tie-dyed shirts, music videos from the era played on multiple screens, trivia questions about the seventies stumped many patrons and several adults realized hula hooping isn't as easy as it once was.
There were approximately 125 people in attendance including All-Star Training Club athletes, event sponsors, UDS employees, board members, family members and friends. UDS is grateful to Steve and the rest of the staff at Spins Bowl Akron for hosting our event and supplying the used bowling pins that were transformed into sponsor awards/decorations by UDS consumers who poured paint on them. Special thanks go out to the thirteen employees and three volunteers who helped things run smoothly throughout the evening.
The winner of the 50/50 raffle generously donated his half of the money back to the agency and several people were fortunate to win some really dyn-omite raffle prizes. Everyone enjoyed the cheerful atmosphere, bowling, food, prizes, games and fun! With your support, UDS raised $42,000 to support inclusive sports offered through the UDS All-Star Training Club.
Plans are already underway for next year's event and a date will be announced soon. Check out a video from the event on UDSTV.org and make plans to join us next year!
