Youth Transition Services

UDS offers a variety of services for students to explore interests and opportunities as they begin to transition from high school to adulthood.

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) are intended to help students with disabilities, as early as age 14. The brief, introductory topics, up to 8 hours each, include Job Exploration Counseling; Work-Based Learning; Counseling on Post-Secondary Opportunities; Workplace Readiness Training; and Instruction in Self-Advocacy. If the student has an open OOD case, he/she should discuss with their OOD counselor a referral for these services. If the student does not have an open OOD case, staff from the student’s school can request services from UDS by submitting a Request for Pre-ETS Form.

Summer Youth Foundations is a COVID-19 Modified Service

Summer Youth Foundations is a COVID-19 modified service to provide high school students ages 14 and over with remote services. The five-week sessions are provided to groups of four students via Zoom sessions. Students participate in one week of training on self-advocacy, one week on job seeking skills training, and three weeks of career exploration, with each day spent taking virtual tours of companies, learning about a different occupation each day.

Summer Youth Career Exploration

Summer Youth Career Exploration is a three-week service for students ages 14 and over. Students visit a different employer each day, accompanied by a job coach. Each employer designs an interactive program allowing students to tour the company, meet and talk with employees about their jobs, and even try out job tasks.

Summer Youth Work Experience

Summer Youth Work Experience is a five-week service for students ages 14 and over. Students are placed at an employer site in the community with a job coach. Students learn vocational skills and have appropriate work behaviors reinforced while gaining paid work experience.
